October is the month of all things scary -- from Halloween, to midterm exams, to those first signs of snow. Despite this, students across campus forget their worries for just a moment as excitement grows over McGill Students for UNICEF’s annual fundraiser Dare to Wear!
Dare to Wear is a yearly tradition where MSFU members and teachers work together to raise funds for vulnerable children in crisis situations. Over a period of two weeks, if every student in the class donates at least 1$, their teacher will dress up for Halloween!
Our members work tirelessly to stay on top of things, from box decorating after class, practicing public speaking, and working with our newly appointed operations coordinators. Months of planning as paid off, as we raised over 2,500$ to go towards the Rohingya Crisis.
The Rohingya Crisis is McGill Student’s for UNICEF’s emergency crisis fund for the 2018/2019 year. The Rohingya are an ethnic minority group who, due to local violence and persecution, are being forced to flee Myanmar into neighbouring Bangladesh. Several military offenses have lead to numerous amount atrocitie. Villages have been burned down and refugees are currently being forced into unsanitary and vulnerable camps. McGill Students for UNICEF would like to highlight the fact that in times of crisis and conflict, children are left the most vulnerable.
For every teacher that participated in our event, MSFU wants to extend our sincerest thanks -- without your help in this endeavour, we would not have been able to raise enough funds or awareness for this very important cause. Special recognition goes to Professor Kohn, who for the last 5 years has come dressed as Superman for Dare to Wear. Moreover, Professor Douek, who dressed up for two different classes, and finally, Professors Stix and Gyakum who co-teach ‘Natural Disasters’, and both came in their goofiest hats! For all our other beloved professors, those who dressed up or participated in other ways -- MSFU and the student body thank you!
We look forward to seeing what our professors come dressed as next year!

What better way to kick off the season than with a good ol’ pong night?
As the first UNICEF event "Dare 2 Wear" approaches, the members of McGill students for UNICEF met up after their weekly gathering for bonding time over a couple drinks and a few rounds of pong at the well known Bar des Pins. A warm atmosphere that brought this year’s team together and set a positive outlook for the semesters to come! It is with excitement that we start the preparations for this years goals and events...

After getting to meet all of our new members at Activities Night, it was time to really get into the heart of what McGill Student's for UNICEF is all about! We had our first general meeting of the year (held at the Frank Dawson Adams Auditorium) and were thankful for the over 200 students who came! Here's to an amazing year ahead of us!
